The Cubs have been undeniably busy signing free agents this winter and they have added eight of them to their 40-man roster so far. And it sure seems like Jed Hoyer and Carter Hawkins have a type, doesn’t it?

Mediocre? Well, sure.

Cheaper than better readily available alternatives? Why, yes, but that’s not it.

Unlikely to be good enough to get the Cubs into the playoffs? That goes without saying.
