Will teams throw money around before the lockout?
Smart teams will. Ours probably won't.

Despite the fact that everyone knows the owners are going to lock the players out when the MLB Collective Bargaining Agreement ends on December 1. Despite the fact that this year's free agent class (especially hitters) is pretty lacking, should we expect a crazy amount of activity when free agency opens five days after whenever the World Series ends?
Why of course not. The owners keep telling us that they can't afford to pay market rates for players because they're just barely scraping by day to day. They can hardly afford to turn the lights on in their offices, don't you know? They need a salary cap just so they can contend. Why, those small market teams have zero chance of ever winning a championship. Pay no attention to the current World Series. Things have to change!
Right?
Of course not.
The last time the owners were in this position in November 2021 they had all of the same complaints and grievances. And what did they do in the run up to that lockout?
