Jed's employing J-Mo no mo'
The move was obvious, but the Cubs usually can't be counted on doing that stuff.
Yesterday, some dope on the internet wrote this:
Will the Cubs designate him for assignment today? No, of course not. The "braintrust" will remain loyal to him, even to the detriment of the rest of the team.
And then, on that very same day Jed Hoyer designated Jameson Taillon for assignment. Bad take much?

Oh, it was me. But I also wrote this:
It's just like how they refuse to give Craig Counsell someone to take Ian Happ's righthanded at bats even though Happ's been terrible from the side for nine straight seasons. They have some slavish devotion to their overrated balding white guys who are supposedly team leaders even while displaying the charisma of a dog turd sunbaked onto a lawn chair.
So, at least you got to carry around an image of Taillon and Happ shaped dog turds drying to a pale white on one of the most oppressively hot days of the year.

On the surface, the decision to DFA Taillon was not a difficult one. He's been one of the worst pitchers in baseball with an overall pitching run value of -16. If you don't know what that means, rest assured it's bad. It's very bad. Somehow there are three percentiles full of pitchers who were worse than him, but also, he missed a month's worth of starts, so if the Cubs had let him keep going, he'd have eventually been the absolute worst.
(Taillon ranked 287th in baseball with that -16 pitching run value. Would you like the list of the 12 pitchers who are somehow worse? You're going to recognize nearly all of them. From "best" to worst they are Mike Barrows (HOU), Randy Vasquez (SD), Matthew Liberatore (STL), Kodai Senga (NYM), Simeon Woods Richardson (TOR), Zack Littell (WAS), Justin Lawrence (WAS), Merrill Kelly (ARI), Zac Gallen (ARI), Aaron Nola (PHI), Kyle Freeland (COL), Jeffrey Springs (SAC), and Michael Lorenzen (COL). I guess it's a good thing the Cubs didn't really sign Gallen during his wedding.)
Also, finding another role for Taillon wasn't worth the effort. The Cubs already have too many bad relievers in their system right now, one more would have tipped that clown car right over.
Who will take Taillon's next start?
