The Cubs haven't had a token All-Star in nearly 50 years

And Petecrow's resurgence means they won't have one this year, either

MLB released the first tranche of All-Star votes and shockingly, the Cubs don't have anyone remotely close to being voted in. They released the top five at every position except outfield, where they listed the top nine, and not a single Cub appeared at all.

Every team has to have at least one representative at the game, so somebody will get picked, and thanks to Petecrow's recent run of competence it'll be him, and he will absolutely deserve it.

Last night, he became just the 13th Cub to ever hit for the cycle, and the first to finish it off with a single and then immediately be picked off first base.

So Cub.

(Such a waste to do something cool with Alex Cohen's FM DJ voice on the call.)

Petecrow is only the Cubs' second centerfielder to ever do it. Hack Wilson did it on June 23, 1930 at Wrigley against the Phillies. Hack wasn't much of a fielder, and the only reason he played center was that he was normally too hammered to remember if he was in left or right so Joe McCarthy would just tell him to "play the one in the middle."

Petecrow was clearly still pissed after the game about the pickoff in his grumpy postgame interview with the always delightful Elise Menaker. Having play behind Phil Maton will do that to a guy.

A few minutes later he was much more "Pete" in an interview on MLB Network.

He even changed his answer about whether or not he was thinking cycle before his fourth AB.

Petecrow was a diving catch in right in his fifth at bat (it ended up being a sacrifice fly) from being just the fourth of the 13 Cubs to have five hits in his cycle. The others were Hall of Famers Hack Wilson, Andre Dawson (1987) and Ivan de Jesus (1980).

Pete's been on a heater for nearly a month now.
