The Cubs are gunning for home field

The Cubs are gunning for home field

Despite a loss last night to the D’bags and a scheduled one today (Jameson Taillon v. Zac Gallen…yikes), the Cubs have been on a roll and getting to the playoffs has become such a foregone conclusion1 that they are now positioned to steal home field advantage from somebody. They are just two games behind the Brewers for the division and two behind the Phillies for the top wild card spot.

Getting to either would mean the Cubs would have home field in the wild card round of the playoffs. And, it’s not just home field advantage, it’s just home field, because all of the games are played in the same place.

The photo above is of the Cubs watching the final outs of the awful 2018 Wild Card game loss to the…Rockies? Check out Drew Smyly standing in the dugout over David Bote’s shoulder. That was Smyly’s first stint with the Cubs, the one where he never actually pitched while recovering from Tommy John Disease, and Theo Epstein had to trade him before year two, because the Garbage Family That Owns The Cubs™ told him they weren’t going to raise the payroll number for 2019 after all.

Given the recent history of the Cubs, maybe they shouldn’t be trying so hard to get home field.
