A lot of the drama has been drained from Cubs camp over the last few days. Cody Bellinger is back. Craig Counsell isn’t putting a spoiler alert on his proclamations that certain mediocre, local outfielders have already made the team. And we still have almost four full weeks of pretend games left. Whatever are we to discuss?

Well, with Peter King “retiring” from writing his weekly 40,000 word Monday Morning Quarterbacks, maybe I should do a tepid tribute and do a notebook dump today?

Sure, why not?

  • Bellinger is expected to make his spring training game debut on Wednesday. He was actually ready to go this weekend, but sensibly refused to play in any of the games that Zach Zaidman was screaming through on Marquee.

  • Jameson Taillon hasn’t pitched in a Cacti League game yet (much to the chagrin of fans who want as many chances to catch home run balls as possible), but the Cubs have assured the media that there’s nothing to worry about. Taillon will pitch in a simulated game on Monday and then could pitch in a spring game next weekend. Well, from the way the Cubs portray it this is just part of the plan and he doesn’t have an injury. I’m sure it’s fine.

  • Oh, about that. According to Maddie Lee, Taillon is dealing with soreness in both calves and it happened way back when the Cubs were doing PFP (pitcher fielding practice). But Taillon told Maddie that “He doesn’t feel it while pitching, jogging or lifting weights.” Which would sound more positive if we thought he has ever jogged or lifted a weight in his life.
