Shohei? No way.
Should the Cubs be in the mix for Ohtani? Of course. Will they? Of course not.

Check out this nonsense.

Should the Cubs be interested in Shohei? Of course they should. What would be their reasoning be to not acquire the best player in baseball, who is only 28 years old and is your top of the rotation ace and your 40 homer DH all in one roster spot?
They’ll give us lots of reasons, and none of them will be good.
They’ll insist they can’t possibly part with the prospects it would take, because the best Cubs are always the ones who haven’t made it to the big leagues to prove they can’t play yet.
They also won’t want to pay Shohei. He’s going to want $50 million a year. That’s crazy money. And what’s crazier? He’s fucking worth it. This year the Cubs paid Jason Heyward and Marcus Stroman $47 million to combine to go 3-6 with a 4.10 ERA, 84 strikeouts in 96.2 innings, and hit .204 with a homer, ten RBI and a .556 OPS.
Shohei is 11-8 with a 2.87 ERA and 176 strikeouts in 128 innings and is hitting .265 with 28 homers and 77 RBI with an OPS of .874.
I’m pretty sure it would be smarter to pay the guy who is better at all of that.
