He's good, not really old yet and wants to stay, so why aren't Cubs trying to sign him?

The one redeeming quality of having David Ross manage your favorite team is that you never run out of stupid shit to make fun of him for.

Yesterday, before the series opener against the Rays, Ross shook up his moribund lineup. He decided it would be better for Nico Hoerner to get at bats with one out instead of none, by hitting him behind Miles Mastrobuoni. Mastrobuoni was playing third in place of Patrick Wisdom, who had just broken out of a month long slump with two homers (driving in all five Cubs runs) on Sunday. Dansby Swanson moved down to fifth because why not get your few good hitters fewer at bats? Edwin Rios made a rare cameo in the lineup, and Fucker Barnyard caught and batted ninth. It was the sixth time this season that Barnhart has caught starter Marcus Stroman, in those six starts Tucker is 1-for-18 (.055).

I get it that sometimes a manager will just shake up the lineup for a couple of days when his team is struggling. That’s fine. What’s not fine was Ross’s tortured explanation for why he made the changes he did.
