Cubs honor the players of my youth
It's about time they turned the calendar past 1972

The first of several newsletters over the next few days about Cubs Convention.
For Cubs fans of a certain age it has felt like the Cubs Convention has just been one long pander to us.
On Friday night, during the overly verbose, overly long opening ceremonies, the always exciting Tom Ricketts could be barely heard over the boos of the crowd and the constant screaming of Cole Wright, announcing the next two Cubs to be inducted into the Cubs Utility Tunnel of Fame Under the Budweiser Bleachers.
One of them is my first favorite player, the other is the even more deserving Mark Grace.
And it’s well beyond time for this. They wallowed in the amber hued hagiography of the 60’s Cubs for far too long. Ernie, Billy, Ron and Fergie were great players, but enough already.
When we do Remember This Crap podcasts on the ‘80s and early ‘90s Cubs, I tend to go on and on about Shawon Dunston, and more than one of you has straight out asked me why I would think a player with a career slash line of .269/.296/.416 wasn’t lousy.
