The Bears won at home, again, but is it enough to keep everybody?

The Bears have had some big New Year’s Eves before. Why just ask Vags about ringing in a new century down at the Chicago River watching the Army Corps of Engineers set off a few explosives to reverse the flow to send all of the human waste to the Mississippi and eventually St. Louis, where it belongs.

But yesterday, man, that was a good one. On the field, the Bears won their fifth straight home game, their longest home winning streak since 1985 (probably, I don’t know, I didn’t check) by thumping the Atlanta Falcons 37-17 in the snow. And off the field (well, it was on a field, just not their field) the Carolina Panthers were no match for CJ Beathard’s Jacksonville Jaguars and their 26-0 loss secured the number one overall pick in next year’s draft for the Bears. Again.

DJ Moore had an incredible day for the beloveds with nine catches for 159 yards and a touchdown (including a Willie Mays style over the head catch that made my back hurt just watching it). Justin Fields played really well, going 20-32 for 268 yards and a touchdown and running for 45 more and another touchdown. Khalil Herbert had his second straight 100 yard rushing game.

On defense, the Bears had four interceptions which gives them 22 on the season. They also had three sacks, which gives them 30, 10 more than last season. They just need ten in the season finale against Green Bay to make my prediction of 40 sacks this year come true. Seems possible.

On Saturday, word started to seep out from all of the national guys who teams leak info to (like Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter) that Matt Eberflus would be returning to coach the Bears next season.
