In a game so boring that Al Michaels spent most of the second quarter conducting a live audition with Jason Kelce for Kirk Herbstreit’s job while Jason was sitting next to Kirk, the Bears won their third game of the season, tying Matt Eberflus’ career high for wins in a season.

The Bears and Panthers muddled around for three hours of our lives and 60 minutes of game time and the offenses combined for one touchdown on 20 drives. The Panthers only touchdown came on a 73 yard punt return touchdown by Ihmir Smith-Marsette, a non-descript journeyman who you only remember played six games for the Bears last year because he managed to sabotage Justin Fields’ late game comeback against Minnesota. First, Smith-Marsette was called for a block in the back to nullify a 52-yard fourth quarter TD run by Fields, and then on the final drive he fumbled when he should have just run out of bounds to stop the clock.

The Bears defense dominated the game, holding the Panthers to just 213 yards and three of 15 on third down. They didn’t force any turnovers because, they just don’t do that, but they did actually have a fairly decent pass rush for once and ended up with three sacks.

Three!

Whoo! Look out ‘85 Bears.
