The annual Winter Meetings are underway, and this year they return to the Opryland Hotel in Nashville. That guarantees one thing. Lots of sports writers and broadcasters bitching about how big the hotel is.

Gordon Wittenmyer gets winded just thinking about taking more than 25 steps to get to an elevator.

The Cubs figure to be busy at the meetings. They’ve got cash to burn, prospects to dangle and that 40 man roster isn’t going to unchrunch itself!1

The biggest story will be where Shohei Ohtani is heading. For once, it’s a story you can’t overhype. He’s the best free agent that’s ever been available. Despite the Dodgers throwing garbage cans full of cash at him he hasn’t signed on yet, and that gives other teams like the Cubs some hope that maybe the thought of just leaving one team to go to the far better one in the same geographical area isn’t all that appealing to him.

I mean, once you’ve heard the legend of the Wrigley Field cup snake, how can you not want to go see it for yourself?
