The North has been taken

Ryan Poles warned everyone that it was coming, and here it is

We are going to take the North, and never give it back. — Ryan Poles, January 31, 2022

Well, the time has come, it was as inevitable as the tide. The mighty Chicago Bears have taken the NFC North, and as their general manager warned their divisional foes just short of two years ago, they aren’t giving it back. It’s theirs now. Deal with it. And as yesterday’s 28-13 ass whupping of the Lions at Soldier(s) Field showed, there’s no stopping them.

The win is their second in a row in the division and head coach Matt Eberflus has run his career record in the division to an impressive 2-9.

Wait. What? Two and nine? That can’t be right.

Do you mean to tell me that he lost the first nine divisional games in a row to start his Bears’ career?

2022
Week Two - Packers 27, Bears 10
Week Five - Vikings 29, Bears 22
Week Ten - Lions 31, Bears 30
Week 13 - Packers 28, Bears 19
Week 17 - Lions 41, Bears 10
Week 18 - Vikings 29, Bears 13

2023
Week One - Packers 38, Bears 20
Week Six - Vikings 19, Bears 13
Week 11 - Lions 31, Bears 26
Week 12 - Bears 12, Vikings 10
Week 14 - Bears 28, Lions 13

Yikes.

The point still stands. The Bears might be 2-3 in the division this season, but they should be 4-1. They would have beaten the Vikings in week six if Justin Fields hadn’t fallen forward and smushed his thumb with his face mask, they somehow pulled off an epic fold in that first Lions game (it was impressive in it’s own way) and then they won the last two.

Yes, the Lions might get to hang a 2023 NFC North Division Champion banner in their dome after the season (and they will, because they never actually win anything important) but the Bears have kicked their ass for seven and two thirds of the eight quarters the teams have played this season, the Vikings are dog shit and the Packers are deluding themselves with, “We did it again!” nonsense about Jordan Love.
