Not that he’s ever been wrong (Arson Judge or Coke Hamels, anyone?) but Jon Heyman says the Cubs and free agent first baseman Eric Hosmer are close to an agreement on, presumably, a one-year deal. But with the Cubs you never know. They give Cody Bellinger one year, they could give Hosmer six for all we know.

Hosmer will fill a gaping hole at first base for the Cubs. Well, “fill” might be a bit strong. He’ll stand near the bag when the Cubs are on defense and he’ll mix in strikeouts and slow rollers to second base when he’s at the plate. It’s going to be glorious.
