"Thanks Dave, I'll take it from here."
The Cubs did the unthinkable (but correct) thing and hired a much better manager.

We live in an age where we are rarely surprised by sports news. We try to be, but some national bigfoot like Woj, or Schefty or Ken Rosenrose spoils it and we learn about the thing just before the thing happens.
That did not happen yesterday. Somehow, Jed Hoyer swooped in and grabbed the best manager on the market and kicked the Ricketts family pet to the curb. Where were you when you found out that the Cubs had fired David Ross and hired Craig Counsell?
Me? I was having a little lunch at Rockford’s finest restaurant and hot spot.

I nearly tossed my Nachos Bell Grande (hold the “beans” and add jalapeno), in the best way possible.
After years of skating on the momentum of winning the world’s longest awaited world’s championship, the Cubs finally acted like big boys and whipped out their wallet and made a shrewd and ruthless move.
Upgrading from Ross to Counsell is like, well, the opposite of going from Kelly Crull to Taylor McGregor.
The Cubs will still need to add better players because you don’t hire a really good manager and then give him a crap team to run, but if they do that, this is going to work.
How do we know that?
Because it’s worked before.
