Hard to believe this didn't work
An ill-advised, overpriced addition has gone bust at Wrigley. So did the sports book.

If you heard the news on Monday that the Cubs were shuttering an overpriced failure, you'd be excused if you didn't react with, "They're cutting Alex Bregman already?"
But no, that's not the news. And it's not even really the Cubs who are doing the shutting down. DraftKings has pulled the plug on the eyesore, glass catbox that was slapped onto the side of Wrigley Field back in the olden days of 2024 for a sports book.
It never made any sense. Mobile app sports betting has been legal in Illinois since 2020, which turns every bar--nice or shitty--every restaurant, every outhouse, you know what, you get the idea...it turns everyplace into a sports book. Why DraftKings thought this was ever a good idea is a mystery. Well, not a real mystery, since when they first came to an agreement with the Cubs on it in 2021 they had so much money on hand they were lighting it on fire instead of bothering to get out of the chair to turn the lights on. They can (and did) blame the closure on the "high tax structure" of Illinois, but whatever, all they did was open an even more overpriced sports bar in a neighborhood full of them. It was never going to work. And, it didn't.
Speaking of things that don't work, how about the Cubs' offense?
