Cubs offense already in postseason mode

At least they're screwing over the Mets

Cubs offense already in postseason mode

The Cubs celebrated the bare minimum accomplishment that would make this a successful season with a champagne and beer party in the PNC Park clubhouse on Wednesday, and then after acknowledging they still have important things to play for yet this regular season (home wild card games), they barely showed up at all in a listless four-game sweep at Cincinnati.

You could blame Thursday's loss to the Reds on the Cubs being hungover, but if you've ever spent any time around professional baseball players, you know that the first thing they learn how to do in the minor leagues is to play with a hangover. Hell, that's the default position.

They scored a whopping seven runs in the four game series and got shut out twice. 1-0 losses bookended the series.

The only redeeming part of the complete wet turd of a series is that the Reds used it to tie the free falling Mets in the wild card race and since the Reds own the head to head tiebreaker over them, they effectively are the third wild card team right now.

As for the Cubs, there may be a method to all of this. It's time to check in again on their quest to finish with the fifth best record in the National League in second half for an unprecedented fourth straight season.
