Cubs let Albert humiliate them one last time

David Ross has one of the lowest pressure jobs in sports right now. He manages an ineptly assembled, quasi-professional baseball team and when he loses, the prospect perverts think it’s brilliant because it’ll give the Cubs a higher draft pick and more of their precious draft pool money. When the Cubs win (not often), the Pollyannas start to get all gooey that the team is actually better than people think.

So mostly, nobody really gives a shit right now whether David Ross’ Cubs win or lose, and when he makes head scratching lineup decisions or in-game moves, people mostly don’t notice. Or, they hand wave them away with, “The front office makes out the lineup card” or “When he has a better roster he’ll be able to make the moves he really wants to.”

With so little asked of Ross, it’s amazing that he could fuck up something as much as this yesterday.

There are legitimate baseball reasons for the Cubs to not pitch to tubby Albert Pujols in that spot. Mostly they involve the fact that Pujols can’t hit righthanded pitching (.197/.301/.326) at all, but he is destroying lefties (.364/.407/.758), and if you haven’t noticed—and judging by the attendance, you haven’t—Brandon Hughes is a lefty.
