The Cubs say goodbye to a very handy backup catcher, and say hello to whatever Phil Maton is

Click through for info on how to buy these books.

Both of the books are on sale now at Amazon in hardcover and paperback, so go check them out. They make a great Christmas present for some Cubs fan who you like, and it makes an even better Christmas present for Cardinals fans who you don't like.

Also, because the books come to you straight from the printer there's no way for me to sign them. So I ordered some book plates. If you don't know what those are, they're basically fancy stickers that are designed to fit right inside your book. So if you buy one or both of the books, you can email me with your contact info and I'll sign and send you book plate(s). There's more info about this on the books page. They're free, of course. I mean, you already paid for the books, the least I can do is sign a sticker or two and pay for a stamp.

The book plates are pretty nice. They use the Wrigley ivy photo from The Immortals cover, and I even bought a fancy white paint pen so I can sign them you can actually read what it says.

Thanks to all of you who have already bought the books. I had no idea if anybody would actually want them, so the response has been very gratifying.

OK, enough of that promo shit, let's get to the Cubs.

On Friday they officially non-tendered relief pitcher Eli Morgan (remember him?) and the Carjacker, Reese McGuire. You have to hand it to the 'Jacker (though let's be honest he's pretty good at handing himself), he turned what was supposed to be a six week cameo on the big league roster into more than 100 days of additional big league service time and he made the playoff roster.
